Introduction / History

There are several villages of the Lang’e in Yunnan province in China. These tribal people are related

to the Lhao Vo people of Kachin State, Myanmar. Very little is written about them specifically.

However, they would be similar to other tribal groups on the China-Myanmar border.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The hill tribes in the border region have been impoverished for years. Transportation has been

difficult. The government has been trying to address these problems with different programs.

However, it is also pushing a policy of Sinicization. This means that schools will be taught in

Mandarin.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The hill tribe belief systems are a mixture of animist practices with some Buddhist beliefs mixed in. A number of tribes have turned to Christ and given up their old religious ways.

What Are Their Needs?

Development is a priority for the Lang’e tribe. They need infrastructure and education. The journey out of poverty is a long one.

Prayer Points

The economic gap between the tribals and the Han is great. Pray that government and private development programs will help raise the Lang’e tribe out of poverty.
Pray for children as the undergo “culture shock” through Sinicization in schools.
Pray that Lang’e people will find comfort and direction from Jesus.
Pray for Lang’e disciples to make more disciples.
